just the two of us

it's just me and mason this week.
cole is at his grandma's house.
his cousin haley is in town from indiana and she has requested the presence of cole. :)
every summer, chris's parents take their 4 grandchildren, who live in indiana, for a week. each by themselves. well, this is obviously a perk for cole. he gets to go spend the night too, as long as they want him to, and play with his cousins.
so, cole has not been home since sunday.
it's just me and mason.
he has been so sweet.
i had a dinner date with some girlfriends from high school last night, and the scene i came home to was chris sitting in the recliner with mason fast asleep on his chest. it was so precious! i wish i had gotten a picture, but i was too eager to pick mason up and snuggle. :)
he has only been 2 for 4 days and already he seems like he's bigger. not only physically, but in every other way. can he really be old enough to grab his brother's gameboy, sit down and actually play all the games?!
we miss cole.
i enjoy the time with just mason, but i miss cole as well.
i don't want to be selfish and make him come home because i know how much fun he has with his cousins.
he is building memories.
i don't have memories of playing with cousins every summer, or going to stay at grandma's house whenever i want. i don't have memories of being close with the rest of our extended families.
i want cole and mason to have that and remember how wonderful it is to be a close family and have cousins and grandparents and aunts and uncles that they can count on and who will all be there for them.

family is something to cherish and hold on to for the rest of your life.
and i don't mean family you see only on holidays and birthdays.
i mean families that are there no matter what. through the good times and the bad.
