Muskegon Bike Days

The day we left camp in Muskegon, there was the annual bike show in downtown Muskegon. We went to lunch with the family and then headed downtown to meet Matt and Elias. As soon as we started getting close to downtown, we walked up on a stunt show. The boys were excited to see the stunt show. Unfortunately there were too many people already gathered around the show so the boys couldn't see too well. We even put them up on our shoulders, but it was still hard for them to see. We decided to stroll down main street and look at all the bikes and vendors. Photobucket Photobucket Mason has turned into a Daddy's boy and it's so cute! I'm slightly jealous but mostly just happy because he's been a mommy's boy for too long. It's so sweet seeing him grab Chris's hand when they're walking. Photobucket He was tired of walking, (it was a lot of walking) so Daddy offered him a "ride" for a while. :) Photobucket Photobucket I tried to get the boys' picture with the National Guard bike but they wouldn't. Then I tried to get their picture with a soldier, but they wouldn't do that either. They were a little more bored than I thought they would be so..... Photobucket Daddy bought them popcorn. And it was half off! He knows how to spot a good deal! lol Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Chris felt a little left out that he didn't have his bike there, but we still had fun. On our way out, we saw that another bike stunt show was about to start, so we got front row for this show. The boys loved it! They even got a high five from one of the stunters and a pat on the head! Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket The boys even got to see one of the guys burn off their tire. When the show was over and we were walking back to the car, the boys couldn't stop talking about their favorite parts of the bike show. I think they had fun after all. :)

Muskegon time!

We get so excited for our annual Muskegon family vacation! This year has been busy and stressful for us and we were ready for a much needed get a way! We headed out Sunday after services. We were packed to. the. top! We pulled into the campsite around 5 in the evening. Because of needing 4 campsites, we were left with few choices, but we managed to find 4 sites together. They weren't in our favorite part of the park, but it worked nicely that we could all be so close and kind of in a cirlce. The kids loved it! They had so much room to run around. Setting up camp went pretty smoothly. Once everyone got settled in and set up, we got to head in to town for dinner....finally! After dinner it was pretty much, run to Meijer, grab a few things, and then head back to camp for maybe some games and bed. Chris and I slept so good at camp! Thankfully Chris decided to bring the box fans with us. We had one pointing on us and one on the boys and it was perfect! I don't think everyone else slept as good as we did though. This summer has been record breakingly hot every where and Muskegon was no exception. It was quite hot and humid, even though we were so close to the lake. Monday started our week full of fun! We started the day out with a delicious breakfast made by Sheila. That's one thing about camp and our family - we. eat. good! There isn't any shortage of junk food, or food in general at our camp. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Gordy and Sheila brought their dog, Luke, to camp. We were all a little hesitant at first about it. We were sure if he was going to bark and be annoying all the time, but he was really good. He hardly made a peep unless a big dog came around and then he broke out his little emphysema bark that was hilarious! Mason wouldn't leave the poor dog alone. He would get a little rough with the dog sometimes, but he's used to Sammy and not having to be as soft and gentle. Photobucket Photobucket Sweet Haley helping her Mom do dishes after the delicious dinner she made. Corn hole was a big hit too. The kids and adults got in a lot of games. I tried it, but I really stunk at it. It was kind of embarrassing that even my 6 year old son was better than I was at it. Photobucket The beach was a favorite for everyone because it was so hot. We couldn't wait to get to the beach! We'd play a sport in the morning, get all hot and sweaty, eat lunch and then head to the beach until dinner. The only downfall about the beach....the HOT sand! The sand was so hot that I felt like I was getting blisters on the bottoms of my feet. Next year I'm bringing my water shoes for sure! Photobucket Photobucket The water was cold at first, but it was so hot out that it didn't take long to adjust. Photobucket Chris and I were excited for swimming this year because we got brand new body boards and we wanted to try body surfing. It didn't quite work the way we had hoped because the waves weren't big enough, but it was still fun. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Relaxing around the campfire at night is always a favorite. The smores come out and we get to sit around and laugh and share stories. Those are such memorable moments! Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Ok. I'm probably enjoying that smore a little too much lol Cute Mason... Photobucket Scary Mason... Photobucket Volleyball was another sport we attempted. Once again, the sand was so hot that the ball flew by most of us women because we didn't want to move. Once we dug down deep into the sand and found a cool spot, we didn't want to move from it! Haha. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Grandma made hamburgers and had hot dogs for the kids to roast over the open fire. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket The last full day of camp, we had a rematch in baseball. The first time we played, we got creamed! It was the Indiana people vs. the Michigan people and Indiana whooped us bad! We were getting creamed pretty good in the second game too. We were down by 10, but then we begged Nolan to come play for us and then we had a winning streak! We caught up to the Indiana team, but ended up losing by 2 points. It was still fun though. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Even Grandpa got in on the action... Photobucket The guys and kids didn't get any fishing in all week, so we had to go the last night. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket We had to have a nice family picture on the pier with the lighthouse in the background. An update of our picture we took there 5 years ago when the 4 of us took our first camping trip alone. And then we had to take a silly picture, of course. :) Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Family picture before we leave camp... Photobucket Photobucket I thoroughly enjoyed my week away. It was so nice to relax, stay up late and play games and laugh. Lots of good memories to take away.... - Gordy asking Sheila for sunscreen and her handing him hair remover - Me walking around with one of my flip flops and one of Cole's flip flops on and not realizing it until Kelly pointed it out - tripping over 3rd base and tumbling over - Sheila losing her balance while trying to put her water shoes on and getting knocked over continuously by the waves because she was laughing too hard to get up - almost getting blisters on my feet from the hot sand - getting my legs and ankles eaten to death by sand fleas and flies - sitting at the bathrooms at 11:00 at night with rain jackets and flashlights waiting for the "big storm" to come - the heat and humidity - watching Mom almost spit her pop out because she was laughing so hard when Chris asked Haley if she had a "coupe de floof" card to lay down in Mille Bornes - hearing and watching all the kids play so well together - beating Ethan and Brian at Euchre with Mom Can't wait for next year!
