all children love getting mail. right?
even adults like receiving things in the mail,
when it's not bills.
you get excited when you see a package
or a pretty envelope in the mail.
so it's understandable that children
would love to get the mail for you and to open it.
just a couple of days ago, cole went and
got the mail while we were waiting for the bus.
he came running back to me with the mail
and said, "mom! there's a piece of mail
here that says 'cole man'."
i picked up the envelope,
which was junk mail,
and looked at the name on it.
it was addressed to a person who
used to live in our house and their
last name was 'coleman'. :)
anyways, coming home today, i stopped and
picked up the mail from our mailbox.
cole immediately asked if he could hold the mail.
i agreed. then he immediately asked if he
could open the mail when we got in the house.
i told him he needed to eat his lunch before it got
cold. (i bought them a happy meal)
i brought their food and the couple of bags
i had from the grocery store in.
all the while, cole kept bugging me,
"can i open the mail? can i open the mail?"
he must have asked that at least 5 times in a row!
finally, frustrated with him for bugging me,
i said, "fine! open the mail."
after i had their food equally divided up and set
on the table and their drinks in place
and the food i bought put away,
i walked over to cole to see what we got in the mail.
i reach down and pick up a netflix envelope first.
i feel a dvd inside the envelope.
i think, "hmm...they've never sent a dvd with
an advertisement to join before."
then i look at the address on the front of the envelope.
i let my eyes gaze at the address quickly, then on to the name.
hmm....i quickly see the first 2 numbers of my street address,
then i let my eyes wander up to the name.
hmm....not mine and not chris's.
there must be a mistake.
i pick up the huge baker college package that cole
tore open and look at the name on the front.
it matches the name on the piece of mail i'm holding.
panicking, i look at the address again.
the 3rd number is not the same number
as the 3rd number in my address!
oh no!!!!
i look at all the other mail that cole, fortunately,
had not opened yet, and it was the same name
and address. all - NOT MINE!
i am so mad at this point!
so, now i have someone's dvd they rented
and someone's baker college package ripped opened.
and i mean completely ripped!
it looked like edward scissorhands tried to open them up!
not kidding.
so, after using what seemed like a whole role of tape,
i got the two envelopes taped back together the best i could.
i sure hope whoever this person is that lives on
my street is nice to me when i return their opened mail.
at least cole hadn't opened her chase credit card bill yet! lol
kids! what are you gonna do?
well, out of all of that drama, i learned my lesson -
check the mail BEFORE you let your 6 year old
open it!
