lunch.

so, for cole's first day of school i asked him what he wanted in his lunch. he said a half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a cheese stick, ritz crackers, and a fruit snack. he topped all that off with some kool-aid. i told him that he needed to eat most of his sandwich and all of his cheese stick before he ate his junk food. he said "ok" and that was that. when he got off the bus in the afternoon, there was the usual exchanges for a first day of school - "how was your first day?", "did you like your teacher?", "did you make any new friends?", "what did you do in class?", etc. then i asked him, "how was lunch?" because he was very excited about going to the lunch room to eat lunch at school. his reply was, "i ate everything in my lunch except i brought back a little bit of my sandwich. so, i thought, "that's fine. if he ate most of it, what more could i ask for?" right? so, we get home, i unpack his backpack and then reach for his lunch box to unpack that. i open it up to take out the leftover sandwich, and this is what i find.....

i just had to laugh outloud when i saw it. i look at it this way....i could save money with him. just pack him a 1/2 a sandwich on monday, and that will last him all week! :)

on a side note: i've decided to just let the whole bus situation be. i've told myself it's not that bad. especially if they expect middle school kids to walk up to a mile to get to their bus stops. i won't complain. there are ways to do this. and, i also found today that cole's school gets out at 4:09! AFTER 4 O'CLOCK!!!!! i didn't think that was right to keep kids in school that long! i thought for sure he got out at 3:19, so i freaked out when the bus didn't drop him off until 4:28 yesterday. i thought, "my poor son only lives a mile from school but rides the bus for over an hour!" haha after asking several questions this morning, cole let me know, in not so many words, that he was the last kid picked up in the morning and the first to get dropped off after school. so, i feel a little better about that. chris and i thought we were going to have to pick him up from school everyday! it still messes us up a little and we have to change our normal daily routine because of it. chris is used to having his dinner around 4:00. yes. i said 4:00. he eats lunch at 11:45, so come 4:00, he is starving! we just eat snacks later on that night because of the early dinner. so, now that cole doesn't get home until around 4:30, we will be changing our dinner schedule. a lot of changes have happened in the past two days.
